Kingston didn’t have a lot to show off at CES, but there are a couple of notable additions to its line-up to talk about. The first is the introduction of a “limited edition” red HyperX DDR3 kit, aiming to be the perfect complement to a dark-colored motherboard which might feature red itself (ASUS RoG, anyone?). These modules are not high-end out of the gate, sporting speeds of 1333 and 1600MHz with CL9 timings. Each of these kits comes with two modules, with the 4GB kits set to retail for $31 and 8GB kits for $54. Remember when RAM was expensive?
Alongside this release, Kingston has also modified its HyperX LoVo modules, replacing its standard heatspreader from the past with the newer Genesis-styled ones (a personal favorite of mine). Modules from this series are a bit more expensive than the Limited Edition red modules due to their lower voltage requirements, so expect to pay $46 for a 4GB kit and $58 for an 8GB kit.
Kingston also unveiled some updates to its Wi-Drive wireless storage device, which we reviewed here. In addition to introducing a 64GB model, the company has also released an app for Amazon’s Kindle Fire that finally unhinges the device from its Apple exclusivity. Not surprisingly, no price-point has been given for the 64GB model, but its release is expected shortly.
