With summer beginning to make itself known for many, the time is right to figure out how to spend those evenings chilling after a day of being out in the sun (right?). Naturally, Steam’s annual Summer Sale comes at just about the right time, because no matter your budget, you’re going to be able to stock your cart with countless game hours. Even if you only have ten dollars, you can still hook yourself up with a bunch of games. Here are some of our favorites that cost just a few bucks each:
The original and sequel Portal games are a meager $1.50 together. Both titles have proven themselves to be great fun for the whole family, with lots of puzzle solving to be done in very interesting and atmospheric environments. These games should not be missed.
Portal 2
Speaking of “should not be missed”, we’d encourage anyone who likes Grand Theft Auto games to check out Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, which has an incredible amount of content packed into a current $2 price tag. This game is great for those who love tearing through content quick, or take the time to explore. Just expect to see a lot more focus on melee combat than you’ve ever seen in a GTA.
Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition
Deus Ex is a legendary series, and for good reason. The most recent games might not have been considered the best in the series, but when they only cost a few dollars a piece, the value still borders on “incredible”. The excellent Human Revolution can be had for a mere $3, while the newer Mankind Divided sits at $4.49.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
For aRPG fans, we’d highly recommend picking up Grim Dawn for $6. It’s not the cheapest of the bunch, and it does have DLC on offer as well, but it’s a modern game that offers so much good stuff aRPG fans are after. Cool environments, hard-as-balls enemies, and of course, tons of loot to grind for. The game continues to be heavily supported by its developer, and seemingly only gets better.
Grim Dawn
A bit of an odd recommendation is Forsaken Remastered, a polished version of the 1998 game that took on the Descent series. At the time of its release, it offered outstanding graphics, and would have been a game worthy of benchmarking at the time. If you like 360° movement in your shooters, you should check this classic out, for just $5.
Forsaken Remastered
With Borderlands 3 due out in a couple of months, the time is now to experience the older ones if you haven’t already. The Handsome Collection, which includes both Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel, currently costs $5. Ask anyone who’s played Borderlands 2 if it’s worth $5, and then prepare to lose dozens, if not hundreds of hours to it. Just be sure to snag the free DLC, Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary, which will become $15 very soon.
Borderlands 2
Ultimately, these are games we happen to recommend, but there are many more that would earn a recommendation just as easily had we played them. If you’re really willing to dig in for some great deals, you could take advantage of SteamDB, which keeps track of current pricing, and whether or not that current pricing is the best for that game that there’s ever been (which is actually Portal 2 right now, with its $1 price tag).
Whatever you decide to pick up, you’re in for a lot of gaming!
