Mere weeks after Destiny 2 hit the PC, NVIDIA’s releasing a new driver that dramatically improves the game’s performance. That’s a great thing for you, but an awful thing for me, as I spent many hours testing the game across 14 GPU configurations mere weeks ago. Isn’t the life of a tech reviewer glamorous?
What kind of performance improvements are we talking? Improvements we don’t usually see being this stark, that’s what kind:
If these improvements hold true in our own testing (original results here, it should mean that 144 FPS is going to be hit in some cases where the average was 20 or so frames off. Of course, that assumes you’re looking for 144Hz; if not, you’re simply going to see better performance in a game that already performed very well on NVIDIA’s GPUs.
Aside from making me spend another entire day on rebenchmarking, NVIDIA’s latest driver also introduces “Game Ready” optimizations for Star Wars: Battlefront II, a game that’s been in the headlines all week, and for all the wrong reasons. Let’s hope EA will get a clue and end up making Battlefront II actually seem like a game worth picking up, rather than one that just wants to drain your wallet. Nonetheless, if you do pick it up, a GTX 1060 will serve you well at 1080p. You’ll want a GTX 1070 for 1440p, and a GTX 1080 Ti for 4K.
NVIDIA also mentions that this driver is ideal for those playing Injustice 2. Perusing the release notes, it looks like SLI profiles have also been added for Battlefront II and EVE Valkyrie: Warzone – overall, nice additions (added SLI support is always a good thing!).
