It appears that NVIDIA refuses to slow down with its GeForce Experience updates, and for any GeForce user, that’s a very good thing. With a brand-new beta being released today, NVIDIA is adding support for 1080p/60 streaming through Twitch.tv and YouTube Live, as well as 4K/60 when streaming through GameStream. That latter feature also includes 5.1 sound support, so overall, it’s quite a nice update. If you’re planning to go the 4K route, though, I’d recommend opting for a wired connection for the best experience.
In addition to those enhancements, this latest beta includes the overlay released last month, which lets you control various things while inside of a game. In personal testing, this feature has worked out quite well overall (although two games I run in windowed full-screen don’t seem to agree with the overlay – I am still looking into that).
A significant change with this release isn’t quite related to GeForce Experience, but the driver itself. Going forward, in order for users to gain access to the latest Game Ready driver, they must add their email to NVIDIA’s marketing mailing list. You’re reading this right: If you want a Game Ready driver, you’re going to have to A) Use GeForce Experience and B) Add your email to NVIDIA’s marketing list.
A subtle thing that this change means is that anyone who wants a Game Ready driver will need to use the latest one available through GeForce Experience – it can’t be had through traditional portals. We were told that in time, people will have the ability to use previous Game Ready drivers through GFE, which to me is very important given that bugs can creep up.
This move is sure to cause some conversation, and unless NVIDIA encrypts or obfuscates the installers somehow, I’d imagine that some websites will benefit handsomely from pulling these Game Ready drivers from GeForce Experience and offering them as standalone.
Despite that bit of odd addition, GeForce Experience continues to get even more packed with useful features.
