Whenever a seriously hyped MMO first hits the market, there’s one thing we can always count on: updated graphics drivers. That’s especially true when the game happens to be Funcom’s The Secret World, which NVIDIA has been happily promoting leading up to its launch. NVIDIA’s support this time around is a little more interesting, though, as The Secret World is the first game to add support for the company’s brand-new anti-aliasing technology, TXAA.
When we first discussed TXAA earlier this year, I admit that I didn’t expect it to take so long to see it implemented into a game. The reason it’s intriguing is that it promises a far greater AA result than MSAA, but at a dramatically less performance cost. This is similar to FXAA’s goals, but the end result should be better with TXAA, as it affects some objects FXAA and MSAA can’t, for one reason or another.
Unfortunately, even if you grab the latest driver and the game today, TXAA won’t be made available until a patch is released next week. Are you tired of this kind of roll-out? Yeah, me too. Nonetheless, it’s en route, and I guess that’s all that matters at this point.
In addition to TXAA support for that game, the latest driver adds SLI profiles for End of Nations, Nexuiz, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Tornado Force and Tribes: Ascend. If you’ve had any recent issues with either Civilization V or any game where your cursor would go missing, both issues should be fixed in this release.
