I didn’t see this one coming. NVIDIA’s Tegra processor has made it into myriad devices, including tablets, a set-top box, portable gaming devices, and even autos. Now, the company can add one more device to its growing list: an oven.
That oven is called June, and it’s the creation of some former Apple engineers who wanted to harness today’s computing power to improve our overall cooking experience. Well, at least the cooking experience of those willing to part with $1,500 for an oven the size of a microwave, that is.
This modern oven packs in more than just a fast SoC: it also has Wi-Fi, an HD camera that hides behind protected glass, and of course, a 5-inch touchscreen. Simplicity is the name of June’s game, so in traditional Apple-like fashion, this oven has just a single real button.
While this oven’s pièce de résistance is being able to automatically detect what you’ve put in to allow it to adjust the temperature and time-to-cook appropriately, what’s also attractive is the fact that all sounds can be completely disabled. If you’ve ever lived in a cramped household, you’ll appreciate why that’s such a nice feature.
June is not available quite yet, as the company is still working out warranty information and service plans, but those who want in can put up $95 right now to pre-order.
