It is one thing to offer to sell an existing product to the server market, but quite another to offer to sell directly to enterprise customers looking for custom designs. That may be why OCZ has just announced the Deneva 2 SSD line. Not content with just offering static SF-2582 powered SSDs such as the Vertex 3 Pro (equivalent to the consumer SF-2281), OCZ Is launching the Deneva 2 SSD line to enterprise customers that want customized SSD configurations for anything from cloud computing to data centers to server manufacturers.
OCZ’s Deneva 2 will offer a very respectable 80,000 4KB random write IOPS and a maximum of 550MB/s of bandwidth through the SATA 6Gb/s interface. Enterprise customers can elect to have their drives ship with MLC, eMLC, or even SLC NAND depending on the need for endurance over cost. Other interface options are possible including even PCIe, or more traditional form factors such as 3.5, 2.5, and 1.8 inches, making these drives extremely attractive for high computing clusters and blade servers.
As always the SF-2582 controller includes NCQ, native AES-256 and TCG Enterprise encryption, and 55 bits correctable per 512-byte sector ECC recovery, both of which are crucial in the enterprise segment. Other SF-2000 series controllers are also a configuration option. OCZ’s Devena 2 SSDs are available now to prospective enterprise clients.
