Logitech Wireless Headphones for iPod – First look

Posted on July 11, 2005 1:06 PM by Rob Williams

The Logitech Wireless Headphones use Bluetooth technology to connect to the iPod via an additional adapter that is included in the package. This particular adapter gets connected to the iPod and transmits signal for the headphones. According to Logitech, the headphones are capable of providing crystal clear sound with digital wireless technology that provides 30 feet of range.

Looks like Logitech does it again. These are seriously great looking headphones! Check out the first look at CoolTechZone.

SilverstoneTek TJ02 Review

Posted on July 11, 2005 1:04 PM by Rob Williams

Right out of the box, I knew this case was going to be a treat to review. The shipping enclosure is made of a hard cardboard material and the case itself is wrapped in plastic and securely shipped between two pieces of Styrofoam. After removing the shipping materials, I finally got my first real look at the case.

NVIDIA, RSX and the future – Interview with David Kirk

Posted on July 11, 2005 12:58 PM by Rob Williams

The G70 launch – the 7800 GTX – has come and gone, though there are still other members of the GeForce 7xxx family to be introduced. Generally hailed as a stonking success, doubling the power of the 6800 series, we thought it rocked.

We asked David how he thought the launch had gone. “I personally didn’t work on it, but the team did a tremendous job. They set out to double performance from the previous generation. The hardest part was to do that and reduce power at the same time. As a techical achievement, to get 2-3 times the performance with lower power consumption is unbelievable.”

Microsoft going soft on Adware maker?

Posted on July 11, 2005 12:53 PM by Rob Williams

Software giant Microsoft has moved to quash claims it gave preferential treatment to adware maker Claria.

The beta version of Microsoft AntiSpyware previously recommended that users quarantine several products from Claria (previously known as Gator) but this changed last week. Instead, users were advised to ignore the messages.

If anyone knows what Gator is, it’s one of the most notorious spyware ever. Microsoft claims that they made no special rules for Claria, even though it was downgraded in importance. Check out the full post Silicon.com.

Rockstar denies sex in San Andreas

Posted on July 11, 2005 12:49 PM by Rob Williams

Rockstar has denied that the “Hot Coffee” pornographic mini-game, which is enabled by a mod for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, is actually a part of the game, after it became the subject of an investigation by the ESRB in North America.

San Andreas is currently rated M (Mature) by the ESRB, but last week the ratings board came under fire from Californian assemblyman Leland Yee, who accused the board of failing parents and generally being untrustworthy after news of the Hot Coffee mod broke.

This is a retarded investigation at any rate imo, but you can check out the full news posting here.

Halo 2 MMP review and Paul Wedgwood Q&A @ Jolt

Posted on July 11, 2005 12:31 PM by Rob Williams

Expansion packs have been a great way of capitalising on the success of popular PC games, but for obvious reasons, the concept has never really caught on with consoles. Only the Xbox has the inherent capability to store large quantities of additional content, but so far we’ve only seen expansions of the…..

VoIP Phone Home?

Posted on July 11, 2005 2:47 AM by Rob Williams

Until genuine changes are made to support SIP VoIP QoS there does not appear to be a convincing or compelling reason today for users to choose anything other than P2P VoIP services such as Skype to render Internet “best effort” home phone services.

Check out the full article here! I’m sure that in the future, we will see VoIP turn out to be very common.. but there’s a lot to be fixed before then.

Sunbeamtech TRIO ATX Case Review

Posted on July 11, 2005 2:15 AM by Rob Williams

With the TRIO removed from the packaging, the first thing that caught my eye were the three analog meters on the lower left front corner. These measure sound, temperature, and fan speed…. Turning the system on, all the lights activate and the front analog meters light up with blue LEDs. The case looks incredible all lit up! I was pleasantly surprised at how the analog meters looked.

NZXT Trinity Gaming Chassis Review

Posted on July 10, 2005 9:33 PM by Rob Williams

Of all the computer cases we’ve examined here at Phoronix, one of the best cases we’ve seen when it came to innovation was the Sytrin Nextherm ICS-8200. However, today up on the testing bench we have the latest chassis from NZXT. The NZXT Trinity features SECC steel construction, a thermal display meter, custom NZXT fan grill, and several tool-less features. Just how well does the NZXT Trinity compare to the swarm of other chassis’ on the market? Read the review to find out.

Corepad Mouse Pad Review

Posted on July 10, 2005 9:30 PM by Rob Williams

Basically, I do not like the Corepad. I do not like any mouse pad that causes the cursor to move when I am not even touching the mouse! While the idea behind the surface of the Corepad looks good on paper, and probably works quite well with a ball-mouse, my Razer Viper had nothing but trouble, even though the Viper is listed on the Corepad Mouse Compatibility web page. I found my Viper to be far less accurate on the Corepad than on my Razer ExactMat, even when using the Speed side of the ExactMat! For what is charged for the Corepad, you can do a lot better.

Well, that no doubt sums up the review! At any rate, check out the short review here.

Seasonic S12 380W Power Supply Review

Posted on July 10, 2005 9:28 PM by Rob Williams

Computer power supplies, there are SO many to choose from, in fact my next 4 reviews (including this one) are of power supplies! All the manufacturers claim theirs is the best, but which is really the best? They all are supposed to do so many things, and they all have lots of abbreviations on them, what does it all mean to you and me? Just what is PFC or OTP,OPP,OVP?, and do you need it?

Head over to Think Computers for the full review!

Seasonic S12 500W Review

Posted on July 10, 2005 5:30 PM by Rob Williams

Seasonic doesn’t need great reputation to help them stand out in the power supply market. Their products are top notch and
provide excellent performance. The S12 500W is more than proof to show what they’re capable of.

ATI a takeover target?

Posted on July 10, 2005 3:15 PM by Rob Williams

Andrew Lee, an analyst with TD Securities who specializes in ATI, has said that ATI is the possible target of a stock takeover, according to a report at the National Post. ATI’s stock saw a much-needed boost at the end of the week, fueling speculation that ATI is possibly being courted or even targeted for a hostile buy. The stock hovered around CAN$14.50 for most of the week, but after a dip Thursday to $14.00, the stock shot up to 15.77, up 8.6 percent for the entire week. It had reached a peak of $15.90, which is still a far cry from the $25 range enjoyed before June, when the stock started to tank. Shares hit their 52-week low on July 7, at $13.90.

ATI must hurry up.. that much is evident. Maybe they have something big up their sleeves.. or at least hopefully. Check out the full post here. Original post: TechPowerUp!.

Adobe Reader Flaw Exposed

Posted on July 10, 2005 1:08 PM by Rob Williams

Adobe yesterday reported its Reader contains a vulnerability that would allow an attacker to remotely execute malicious code. A security flaw in the dominant document-sharing software could allow hackers to seize control of a computer system.

It’s seems to be only Unix versions of the app that are vulnerable, and an old version. If you have 7.0 or later, you won’t have to worry about the exploit. Read more here.

USC tries to reach 270,000 applicants

Posted on July 10, 2005 1:01 PM by Rob Williams

Officials at the University of Southern California say they will contact everyone who used the school’s online application form in the past eight years after learning that a prospective applicant exploited a security flaw on the site to view a handful of past forms. School security officials say they plan to contact about 270,000 people although they believe the alleged hacker viewed only about 10 files.

Investigation, denials and outcry over video game’s sex scenes

Posted on July 10, 2005 12:57 PM by Rob Williams

After downloading and installing a modification to the game — one of many “mods” available on Web sites maintained by videogame enthusiasts — a new world opens up in which the girlfriends appear nude and engage in explicit sex acts, according the mod’s author.

The new content fills in what publisher Rockstar Games left to the imagination in the rated M (Mature) version sold in stores. Sexual content of this kind generally earns videogames an AO (Adults Only) rating, which very few retailers are willing to sell.

In my opinion, who cares if this is a hidden ‘locked’ feature. Kids who play the game, still have to ‘unlock’ it to see it. If they have to go through the effort to see it, they could even easier go through the efforts of seeing an adult website. Check out the article at SF Gate.

Thermaltake Muse 5,25″ Enclosure Review

Posted on July 10, 2005 12:32 PM by Rob Williams

Thermaltake presented some nice cool looking hardware at the Cebit 2005 this year. Today I have to opportunity to play with the Muse 5,25 Inch Enclosure. This enclosure can be used for 5,25 Inch DVD/CD/CDRW but can be fitted with 3,5 Inch HDD as well. The data is portable making use of a USB2.0 connection but a separate power supply is needed. Never the less making it a multipurpose enclosure to take and share you backup with whom and where ever you are.
