Corsair XMS XPERT PC3200 @ Viperlair

Posted on June 15, 2005 8:27 AM by Rob Williams

Corsair XMS ram in general should be on your very short list for any enthusiast application. After working with this XPERT RAM in particular it’s hard to want to use anything else. Corsair once again delivers some of the highest quality sticks of RAM in the industry.

Corsair memory is great. When they add LED’s and realtime readings to it, does it make it cooler? Check out the full review at Viper Lair.

MSI RS480M2-IL Motherboard Review @ PC Stats

Posted on June 15, 2005 8:25 AM by Rob Williams

I think it’s safe to say that ATi actually has a leg up on the competition when it comes to graphics integration. Intel and VIA have been producing decent performing budget chipsets but the two company’s integrated graphics options are still lousy on the 3D front. ATi traditionally has excellent 2D/3D image quality and as we’ve seen so far, it’s integrated Radeon IGP is a solid performer good enough for the casual gamer.

This looks to be a good introduction from MSI into the ATI Chipset motherboards. Check out the detailed review at PC Stats.

Inside the Labs of ASUSTeK @ Hexus

Posted on June 14, 2005 2:08 PM by Rob Williams

3DMark was run through on both cards at default settings and then at 1280×1024 with 4x Antialiasing and 16x Anisotropic Filtering with all quality settings in the device driver set to maximum. We also ran the EN6800GT through overclocked to ULTRA speeds.

You gotta see the benchmarks, they are unreal! Going to be some pricy cards here. Check it out at Hexus.

Red Hat FedoraCore4 Screenshots @ Phoronix

Posted on June 14, 2005 2:06 PM by Rob Williams

RedHat Fedora users around the world can finally celebrate that FedoraCore4 has finally been released; after a few unexpected delays. The reason for this last one-week delay was reportedly due to some “legal reasons” with the new FC4 codename (Stentz). Some of the major updates in FC4 include GNOME 2.10, KDE 3.4, GCC 4.0, and even Xen. If you simply can’t withstand the wait for your download to finish, or you happen to be a screenshot junky, feel free to look at our FC4 final screenshots.

PrimeCooler PC-HC5+CU air cooler heatsink @ A1 Electronics

Posted on June 14, 2005 2:05 PM by Rob Williams

First off we have to say that this PrimeCooler PC-HC5+CU gives very good cooling performance as we can see in this graph. Another benefits is that we found the fan to be quiet.

The PrimeCooler PC-HC5+CU does not weigh that much either considering it is a full copper design and build for all AMD Athlon & Intel Pentium 4 processors.

You can check out the full review of the cooler at A1 Electronics.

Zalman Resorator1 Plus @ HardwareXL

Posted on June 14, 2005 1:56 PM by Rob Williams

Zalman’s Resorator has already deserved its tracks. The original blue, passive cooltower which went sold quiet well. Since the capacity of the Resorator has still sufficient reserves to keep the current keep CPU’s cold has made Zalman decide to modify the coolingtower to meet the demands of the current hardware junkie.

Nexus Breeze Quiet Computer Case w/ 400 Watt PSU @ 3D Gameman

Posted on June 14, 2005 1:54 PM by Rob Williams

Having a quiet computer system is bliss! Computers can generate a lot of noise which can be very distracting and annoying. With noise absorption material on both side panels, the back and front, most noise will stay inside this case. There are lots of drive bays and even USB/Firewire Ports, Mic and a Headphone jack at the front. Watch the Video to find out more…

GeCube RADEON X800XLA-VIVO 256MB AGP @ Hexus

Posted on June 13, 2005 1:39 PM by Rob Williams

The bridged card opens up the X800 XL for a well-established market that covers a plethora of chipsets, and the Rialto bridge doesn’t appear to hurt performance at all. GeCube’s eschewed the reference design by using an in-house cooling system, although it’s not as elegant as the company’s Uni-Wise implementation. Going with a custom cooler has added extra noise over and above the reference card’s, so GeCube loses a few marks here. The card, too, is a larger-than-normal affair, making installation into small form-factor PCs needlessly difficult. The saving grace, as far as design is concerned, is the inclusion of ATI’s no-frills Rage Theater ASIC, giving rise to basic VIVO functionality. The bundle makes a point of reiterating the card’s HDTV and VIVO compatibility, but, other than that, it’s strictly average.

MACS Airconditioning – AMD K8 Kooler (tec)

Posted on June 13, 2005 1:34 PM by Rob Williams

In a normal application of a TEC, they are not implemented inside a heatsink unit but as a heat transfer between the heatsink and the CPU. It is necessary in that situation to have the TEC transferring all the heat from the CPU to the heatsink. That means you need a TEC which is capable of transferring more heat than the CPU can put out. The danger is that if the TEC doesn’t do it’s job for whatever reason, then the CPU will just get hotter and hotter. If the TEC switched off or burnt out, there would be pretty much no cooling on the CPU, which is bad… also the heat output on the hot side is usually a lot more than just that on the CPU side, so you get a cold CPU, but a very hot heatsink – which is why they are not used very much outside of water cooling.

Simpletech Pc4000 Dual Channel Nitro Review @ ThinkComputers.org

Posted on June 13, 2005 7:42 AM by Rob Williams

RAM, Enthusiast, Gamer, High Performance, High Speed, whatever you call it, it is usually signifies fast, overclocker ram. All the major companies out there, Crucial, Corsair, Geil and many others are making it, and making it well. Today I have for review 512mb Dual Channel Kit of PC4000 from Simpletech called NITRO. Yet another entry into the performance ram segment. To be honest when I heard we were getting this ram for review, I had to do some research on it, as I never really heard of Simpletech. Yes, I heard the name mentioned a few times here and there on forums, but I had no personal experience with it, or know of anyone personally that owns any. The reviews I did read on Simpletech Ram were very good, so I was excited to be getting it for review.

Titan Bianca CPU Water Cooler @ Big Bruin

Posted on June 13, 2005 7:09 AM by Rob Williams

To make water cooling a little more bearable Titan has simplified things by combining the radiator, fan, reservoir, and pump into one assembly. Unlike many other water cooling systems this unit is designed to sit atop your computer tower. This feature allows you to keep the inside of your case clean while allowing you to operate a variable speed fan controller and refill the cooling reservoir if necessary.

USB TV on a Stick – Now for Real

Posted on June 13, 2005 7:07 AM by Rob Williams

Compro just informed us they are bringing USB TV Stick to the market. Measuring at just 9 x 2.6 x 1.1 cm, the U880 is really just the size of a large USB flash drive, like the original DiskOnKey. Dubbed as VideoMate U880, the midget-sized TV tuner offers USB bus-powered at the expense of stereo audio and hardware encoding.

Posted on June 13, 2005 6:59 AM by Rob Williams

I’m glad to announce that from today I am able to review products for the AMD platform as well. But seeing the AMD hardware needed a case to house in I came across the ASUS Vento3600. Which goes around for aprox. €140,-. Would my AMD3500+ feel secure enough in its new environment? Enough said lets take a look at the ASUS Vento3600 Blue Edition.

Now THAT’S a unique looking case. Can’t say I’m crazy about it, but you may disagree. Check it out at HardwareXL.

OCZ PC2-5400 EB Platinum Edition @ Viperlair

Posted on June 12, 2005 7:13 AM by Rob Williams

It appears as though DDR2 memory is becoming more and more mainstream. It also appears OCZ, with its EB Platinum Edition, is serious about staking the claim of performance in this arena. With CL timings that you would be hard pressed to match, especially at PC2-5400 speeds, looks like the stake is driven deep.

Looks like some solid memory, and great timings! Check out the full review over at Viper Lair.
