Dr. Who Leaker Canned

Posted on March 24, 2005 8:34 AM by Rob Williams

“The source of the Doctor Who leak which saw the first episode of the new series splashed across the web has been sacked, the BBC reports.

It’s not, however, a Beeb insider, but rather someone working for “third-party company in Canada”. BBC international production partner, the Canadian Broadcasting Company, probed the outrage and tracked down the culprit who had access to a preview copy of Rose. The individual responsible was duly sacked.”

So maybe that puts to rest, “They leaked on purpose to intrigue people”. Read it at The Register.

Gigabyte GV-RX80L256V Radeon X800XL Videocard Review @ PC Stats

Posted on March 23, 2005 4:50 PM by Rob Williams

“The Gigabyte GV-RX80L256V videocard on the test bench today is a silent videocard; a unique thing for any product wearing a “Radeon” name, but there it is – not a single fan. This brand-new videocard is built from the ground up around the ATI X800 XL VPU, which is nicely hidden behind a complicated heatpipe-based passive cooling system. The X800 XL VPU has been matched with 256MB of GDDR3 RAM. The memory hums along at a full 1 GHz speed on a 256-bit wide memory controller. The GV-RX80L256V also supports TV/S-Video output as well as component out for HDTV applications.”

As you might expect, the ATI Theatre 550 chip is also found in ATI’s latest Multimedia products too.”

Posted on March 23, 2005 8:53 AM by Rob Williams

I don’t know about you guys.. but I used to watch his show *all* the time. Well.. he’s coming back to host a Science show that’s more adult themed..

“When I was in high school, the dry science videos that I watched in my classes made me miss the silly and sometimes irreverent Bill Nye the Science Guy. So I was excited to read in the latest issue of Wired that everyone’s favorite Science Guy is coming out with a new show, The Eyes of Nye where he tackles some more serious issues like addiction, sex, cloning, and climate change.”

Xtrac Hybrid Mouse Pad @ Hardware Hounds

Posted on March 23, 2005 8:25 AM by Rob Williams

“In the box you get the HYBRID (of course), transportation instructions (a definite plus), a HYBRID sticker and a package of Xtrac’s Mad Dotz. For those of you who haven’t had the privilege, Mad Dotz are Teflon coated circles you put on the bottom of your mouse to enhance manoeuvrability. To quote the packaging, they are “Mouse Feet Enhancers”. I have always been a big fan of Mad Dotz, finding them to be some of the slipperiest on the market. To have a package of 12 included with the HYBRID is just icing on the cake.”

Not surprisingly, this study is being funded by Microsoft. However, that may not really mean a thing. Check out the article at News.com.

More CeBIT Coverage @ Hexus

Posted on March 23, 2005 6:53 AM by Rob Williams

Hexus has even more CeBIT info for us to devour.

“Innovation always catches the eye, but imagination is a big attention grabber too. Which is why I found myself drawn to an area behind the WCG arena in halle 27, where to my delight, I found row upon row of perspex cases, and what filled them was really something rather special.” – Modding Heaven!

“So what was the fastest PC at CeBIT? Extreme Cooling Technologies’ 5.4Ghz PC is the answer.” – Fastest PC at CeBIT

“CeBIT is not just about computers… it covers pretty much anything technology related, so anyone who produces anything you plug in and use was showing their wares. (With the exception of those people who produce the stuff that goes into the back pages of the Anne Summers catalogue, they have a different show all of their own, which DVDoctor has already covered…)” – CeBIT Pictorial Roundup
