With the launch of its newest 2-bay NAS, the N2810, Thecus has added another device to its multimedia-centric portfolio. With a focus on its new NAS operating system, 7.0, the N2810 will be Thecus’ first product shipping with the updated code. Speaking to this, Thecus CEO Florence Shih recently said that, “With the recent development of our newest operating system, ThecusOS 7.0, we are elated to announce that the N2810 will be the first Thecus NAS to be released with the new software.”
Equipped with an Intel Braswell N3050 1.6 GHz dual-core processor (burstable to 2.16 GHz) and 2 GB of DDR 3 RAM, the N2810 is capable of providing smooth 4K content playback while running other processes in the background. With an HDMI port for audio and video output, the N2810 also supports USB devices, Apple TV, and Chromecast. Rounding out the connectivity of the N2810 is a pair of LAN ports and three USB 3.0 ports. Also available on the N2810 is Thecus’ AES-NI encryption engine for increased performance and enhanced security.
With the primary function of any NAS is to store data and make it accessible on the network, security can be a concern. To help with this, Thecus bundles the N2810 with Intel Security software, as well as Acronis’ backup solution. For networks with a pair of Thecus NAS boxes, the Thecus System Failure feature is possible, providing an active/passive configuration of the devices. Also available are standard cloud services like Dropbox, Amazon S3, and ElephantDrive.
The N2810 will ship globally in February, 2016, although we’re not sure as of the time of writing what its cost will be.
