With our inboxes inundated with CES related content, sometimes a news story gets overlooked. Case in point: on Christmas Eve, Thecus announced the availability of its latest NAS operating system, ThecusOS 7.0. While still in beta, 7.0 is designed for a 64-bit architecture and is fully compliant with HTML 5. These two details combine to offer an improved user experience through higher performance.
“Individuals and businesses alike demand storage solutions that provide productivity, efficiency, and agility”, said Florence Shih, CEO at Thecus Technology Corp. “With the release of ThecusOS 7.0, we plan to transform user experience by providing an optimized, feature-rich platform for data management and application use.”
Beyond the redesigned user interface, new in 7.0 is optimized storage management and enhanced multimedia capabilities. The integration of the File Center feature provides a centralized portal for users to manage their data. ThecusOS 7.0 has also expanded its offerings to include media streaming via HDMI, VGA, Chromecast, Apple TV and connected USB devices.
With access to the Thecus App Center, 7.0 brings over 700 internal and externally develop applications to the platform. From backup and security to file management and cloud services, the App Center has most common applications to expand the value of Thecus devices.
The first NAS device we looked at here at Techgage was the Thecus N2100 back in early 2007. We’ve looked at a handful of the company’s devices since then and are excited to get our hands on a device running 7.0. For those of you whom are impatient, a live demo can be experienced here.
