Following up on its launch of 60 FPS playback last November, YouTube has just announced that it’s extending the capability to streaming. This move proves that while Google lost out to Amazon in the hunt for Twitch.tv, the company hasn’t given up on the streaming market.
As with regular 60 FPS playback, gamers will be able to stream their content at either 720p or 1080p. Further, this is all done through HTML5, which I consider to be a huge perk – Twitch.tv still relies on the much-loathed Adobe Flash.
Because not all streaming apps support 60 FPS, Google has worked with Elgato and XSplit to get their respective apps updated. We’d imagine that NVIDIA won’t be too far behind with its ShadowPlay software.
This is a great move by YouTube overall. Now, any guesses as to when we’ll see 60 FPS at above 1080p?
