This story couldn’t be more perfect for a Friday. Sophos, a leading anti-virus provider, issued its detection updates as usual yesterday, and while this usually goes off without a hitch, there was a problem with this one. Somehow, the update managed to begin detecting Sophos itself as a virus. Shh/Updater-B, to be exact (I guess…

Still don’t own Battlefield 3? What on earth would it take? EA to sell the game for $10??? Oh, really? Well you’re in luck! To celebrate Battlefield’s 10-year anniversary, all of the games in the series, sans DLC for the latest game, is on sale for a cool $10. It’s been quite a while since we last took a look at a Nero product – three years if you count NeroLinux or five years for the Windows suite – so it’s about time to end that drought. With Nero 12 set to launch soon, we’ve decided to take it for a spin and see what it brings to the table – is it the ultimate media consumer suite, and is…

For those who own phones equipped with it, NFC (near-field communication) has the ability to offer some cool functionality. The most popular example is allowing you to hover your phone over a device at a checkout in order to pay for your order, but other ideas could include swiping the phone to pick up information from a kiosk…

I took a look at Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD for the Xbox 360 back in July, and at that time, a PC version had never been confirmed. Well, a month later, it was, and its release happened just this week – and for a mere $10. Is it better than the console versions? Does it play better? Does it look better? These are the questions…

Barely two weeks ago, we finally found some hard evidence that Valve was looking to create a video game console, but who knew that the company already has working prototypes and has been hard at work testing them? In talking to Engadget, that factoid was unveiled, and I must say, I’m impressed. Valve didn’t do the best job keeping…

Ahh Samsung, you sure do know how to take a $1 billion settlement case against you in stride. The company, which last fall poked fun at Apple’s stereotypical customers, has done it again – this time prefacing the launch for the iPhone 5. This time around, Samsung goes a bit further, amping things up, if you will. No longer is…

When seeking out a new mobile game, there are two factors I’m a sucker for; puzzle mechanics and lots of color. So it’s of little surprise that months ago, I stumbled on Color Fusion for Android, a game I’ve beenmeaning to talk about since then. It’s a simple game overall, but accomplishes its goal of exercising your brain well.

If that 20GB video you just filmed is taking too long to copy over to your PC, don’t fret – there’s a solution en route. Looking past that fact that you’ll need a new camera, the CompactFlash Association has just announced its CFast2.0 draft specification, which puts CF cards behind a SATA 6Gbit/s interface that can allow up to…

Reviews for Apple’s latest iPhone have begun to trickle in, and the general consensus is that it’s a bit more impressive than the launch specs and stage presentation alluded to. CNET says that “everything changed just a bit“, and while one or two upgrades might not be that noticeable, when the entire device is finer-tuned, it is.

Sony’s PlayStation 3 might be growing long in the tooth capabilities-wise, but Sony is never against updating its beloved console to either coax its fans into buying a second one, or finally getting those hold-outs to join in on the fun. In 2009, the company released a “slim” version of the console, which looked quite a bit better…

The original indie bundle is back and better then ever with the Humble Bundle 6. This is a return to the core ways of doing things for the Humble Bundle group, as the past few offerings have been lackluster at best, in terms of interest. The Humble Android Bundle 3 only generated $820,000, and prior to that, the Humble Music…

Microsoft has detailed the pricing structure for its upcoming Office 2013 suite of products, and much like Adobe with its recent Creative Suite launch, the company is hoping you’ll opt for a subscription package. Real bad – to the point where the company seems to be going out of its way to make the stand-alone version sound way less…

Following in the footsteps of Orange, which released the ‘San Diego’ Intel-powered phone this past summer in the UK, Motorola has just announced its ‘RAZR i’, also in the UK. The phone is the first to feature Intel’s latest Atommicroarchitecture, Medfield, which means the phone is HyperThreading-enabled. That’s born almost…

Barely a year after site co-founder Rob Malda left Slashdot, it’s been sold, along with SourceForce and Freecode. Dice Holdings, owners of the Dice.com career site, paid $20 million for the deal. Strikingly, $20m is roughly said to be the revenue that all three properties combined earn annually. Companies are generally valued much…

It’s been a painful wait, but the much-anticipated Borderlands 2 has finally launched, and so far, without much of a hitch. Though I’m waiting until Friday to truly begin the adventure with friends, I checked it out for about 20 minutes not long ago to get a feel for the game. If you’ve played the original Borderlands, you’ll feel…

You may have seen this keyboard popping up over various sites a couple months ago, and it’s truly an eye-catcher. Following on from the R.A.T. range, Mad Catz has released the S.T.R.I.K.E. 7 keyboard, and we were fortunate enough to get a sample in to review. To give you some idea as to what kind of keyboard this is…

It seems like the Sabayon crew has adopted the rapid-release cycle of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, because yet another new version is upon us: 10. Yes, 10. Just last summer, I took a quick look at 6, and given the modest size of the dev team, this output is nothing short of incredible. I’ve been telling myself for a while…

In what I’m sure comes as a surprise to very few, Adobe has finally announced the end of support for Windows XP – at least on the Photoshop front. Each product at Adobe has its own team, so some products in “CS7” may support the aging OS, but chances are this will be the launch where we’ll see that greatly thinned out.

In our fast-paced technological world, it’s not uncommon to see people jump from one company to the next to take on new challenges. But when an executive leaves their role representing one of the company’s more important products, it sure does get the speculation train moving. The latest case is Michael Rayfield, NVIDIA’s…

In advance of Borderlands 2‘s launch tomorrow (or Friday to those outside of North America), Gearbox has given us an official launch trailer – as if those contemplating the game needed more convincing. It shows the four vault hunters arriving in Pandora in much the same way it happened in the first game, just with a bit more flair.

Earlier this year, many Dungeons & Dragons fans were elated to hear that Baldur’s Gate was not only getting a graphic overhaul, new gameplay features and new character’s, but it would also be heading to all the popular OS platforms. In July pre-orders began for Windows, but Android and iOS were left waiting until its eventual release.
