Earlier this month, we talked briefly about Valve’s Steam client for the Mac, and what it’s going to mean for Mac games in the year or two ahead. The source of the information came from a detailed interview with the company at GamesIndustry, and last week, the second and final part of it was published. Regardless of whether or not you…

For the sake of the environment, hybrid and fully electric cars are a good thing. The cost up-front is higher, but down the road (no pun), it could save you money, and likewise have a minimal impact on the environment. But there is just one problem… the lack of noise. It might not seem like a big deal, but for pedestrians, it sure can be.

The fact that technology has become a major part of our lives can’t be argued, and for a lot of people, there are few instances in a single day when we’re not connected. A major exception might be while in the shower, and for some, even that’s not the case, with computers being built right into some models. But is all of this connectivity and…

Last week, I mentioned an MMO I play called Lineage II, and in that post, I also mentioned that it has the worst level grind of any game I’ve ever played. So it’s with some coincidence that a couple of days later, news of a lawsuit surfaced where one US-based gamer is suing the game’s developer, NCsoft, for making the game “too addictive”.

Earlier this year, a hacker was successful in breaking through the necessary walls that Sony had put in place on the PS3, and stated that it would be possible to play backups of your games, and do other fun things. While many were impressed with this feat, Sony clearly wasn’t. Merely two months later, the company decided to completely rid out…

To some, a keyboard is a keyboard. But for those who care a lot about precision and comfort, even two keyboards that look quite similar might feel entirely different after long-term use. There’s a reason that there still exist devout fans of old IBM keyboards that make loud clicking noises which each button press, and it seems that Razer has…

Intel is a company that acquires many other companies, and more often than not, the reasons for these acquisitions are obvious to pretty well anyone who chooses to read into them. But yesterday, the company made an acquisition that has many scratching their heads… McAfee. Considering that Intel generally acquires companies…

In January of last year, Microsoft made some rather harsh cuts to its Flight Simulator team, and naturally, fans of the series began to wonder if a proper follow-up would ever be made. As far as flight sims go, there are many out there, but Flight Simulator had an obvious backing that other game developers couldn’t quite match.

μTorrent, also referred to as “micro Torrent”, is currently the most popular BitTorrent client, and for good reason. The main one is the fact that it’s lightweight, at just over 300KB. To put that in perspective, a handful of .torrent files will be much larger than that. The other reason is that it’s full-featured, so overall, there’s little to dislike.

No matter where you live, a common gripe that many of us can share is the half-truths told to us by our ISPs. We’re promised one speed, and usually get another. Is it too much to ask for to simply have an ISP give us straight facts, rather than us have to discover them for ourselves? Well, unless a law is put in place that forces them to, like the…

If you’re a PC gamer, there’s quite a good chance that over the past ten or so years, you’ve dabbled a bit in an MMORPG title. Or, it could be that like the millions of others out there, you’re hooked on World of Warcraft or the many other MMO titles out there. Personally, I’ve been playing MMO games off and on for about ten years, although I…

Fractals, those neat designs that use an infinite number of identical patterns to generate something interesting to stare at, appear simple at the surface, but are in actuality insanely complex to understand. In some cases, such as with the famous Mandelbrot set, you almost have to be a mathematician (or at least, not me) in order to understand…

When ASUS released its first-ever Eee PC, it kicked off a major chain-reaction. The word “netbook” was born, and has since then spun into related terms such as “nettop” and “nettablet“, and as we’re well aware, ASUS was far from being the only company to push these netbooks hard. In fact, there seemed to be more competition out there…

Whew, how time flies! On August 16, Debian, one of the first-ever Linux distributions, turned 17. That’s right… before computers could be found in almost every home, and before there was even the “Internet”, a hopeful operating system based on the Linux kernel was rapidly being developed. If you follow Linux in any extent today, you’re likely…

I think it goes without saying that solid-state drives are a hot commodity today, and while everyone wants one in their PC, the biggest issue has been price. Things have certainly been getting better over the past couple of years, though, with prices hitting close to $1.50/GB in some cases. But compared to the $0.05/GB of many 2TB hard…

Last week, a story broke through the entire Internet at blazing-fast speeds, and at first, most anyone who caught wind of it believed it. After all, it wasn’t that hard to accept. Of course, I’m talking about Jenny, the girl to quit her job via way of taking pictures of herself holding a dry erase board filled with different ramblings. By day, the story…

This past May, it became known that BFG Tech, a company once known for producing some of the finest NVIDIA-powered graphics cards around, had given up on them due to their lacking ability to generate revenue (competition is tougher than ever). At that time, things seemed fine with the company’s PSU line, but not too long…

A couple of weeks ago, I linked to an interview with Cory Doctorow, which took a look at gold farming in MMO’sfrom a slightly different perspective. Well, in the “world” of MMO’s, gold farming is a major issue that can affect mostly players, and not so much the game developer. But there’s another factor that does affect the latter…

Have you ever walked up to a vending machine and hoped that it could recommend a tasty beverage? Well, likely not, but in case you did, you should probably plan a trip to Japan, where such a thing is being rolled out en masse. Within the next two years, the company behind them promises that there will be at least 500 units…

As hard as it may be to believe, it’s been well over a year since 3D Realms posted that it’d be shuttering. Since then, a lot has happened, including the realization that it hasn’t shuttered, but rather that it is running with a skeleton crew. But, with that skeleton crew, it meant that continued Duke Nukem Forever development was…

It’s been just about three years since the original BioShock came out, and at the time, it won gamers over due to its original setting and story. It’s not too often you get to play in an underground city, after all. Not to mention an underground city during the 1960’s. The sequel continued with much of the same environments and characters…

It’s been a little while since we last held a contest, so to kick things back up, we’re offering up not one, but three NZXT Sentry LXE fan controllers! Bill took a hard look at this product just last month and was left quite impressed. It looks good, works well, and did I mention it looks good? Plus, it’s not an internal unit, like so many of them are…

I love to game, and I love games that have puzzle elements to them. But when it comes to a real puzzle, I realize just how un-smart I am (see what I did there?). Whether it be crosswords, sudoku, or the Rubik’s Cube, I’m normally left clueless. Well, at least where the latter is concerned, I can feel a bit of comfort in knowing that allcombinations can…

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, or FBI for short, formed in 1908 with the goal to investigate crime and ultimately, serve justice. Over the years, it’s helped put many people behind bars, and as an avid watcher of America’s Most Wanted, I have seen many times how the FBI has helped, with both finding missing persons…

For people surfing the Internet, aka: most of us, an increasing concern is the lack of privacy that’s becoming more evident by the day. How many times have you visited a website and saw a banner ad that peddled local dating, with pictures and profiles of potential hopefuls from your exact city? Where privacy is concerned, things…
