There have been a few companies in the consumer electronics industry that Techgage has worked with more than a few times. Corsair, Logitech, NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Synology; just to name a few. With over ten products reviewed at Techgage in our ten years, Zalman absolutely deserves to be included in that list as well.
It’s been a rather quiet spell for Zalman, the Korean-based PC cooling company, and the most recent news coming from the company is not even remotely positive. As reported by our friends at The Tech Report, Zalman filed for bankruptcy on November 3rd in Seoul. Much of the speculation surrounding this announcement involves Zalman’s parent company, Moneual and its alleged inflation of their export performance.
In talking with the rest of the Techgage staff, this news is deflating. Not so much for the loss of future products, as Zalman has been somewhat quiet as of late, but more for the closing of a chapter in many of our computing lives. Known early in its existence for its fanless PC coolers, Zalman really began making a name for itself with its active cooling solutions. I personally have had at least a dozen different products from the company, even replacing the failing fan on my old BFG AGEIA PPU with one of its flower-shaped coolers. I have that card on display in my office for all to see. Both for what it meant to me but also as a fun anecdote of the industry we all love so much.
From passive coolers to absolutely amazing PC chassis, Zalman left its mark on us all. We haven’t much clue what will happen to its intellectual property, if anything, but one thing is strikingly clear, Zalman as it was will be missed by both us at Techgage and by the greater PC community as well.
Thank you, Zalman, for the many years of great engineering and many perfect products.
