The moment Borderlands fans have been waiting for has arrived; the Borderlands 2 launch trailer is upon us. Don’t get too excited about the term “launch” here, however, as the game isn’t exactly right around the corner, but rather slated for release on September 18 in the US and the 21st worldwide. For some users, however, there was a gaping flaw: it was locked – that is, unable to have personal firmware / ROMs flashed to it. In early January, we posted that ASUS realized…

Being a PC gamer is a great thing for a number of reasons, but one of the downsides is that we often feel the need to convince developers that our platform of choice is one worth supporting. Often, a developer has an excuse that the target audience isn’t as large, or there are just limited resources. As a result, we often get the wrong…

Remember all the way back in September when we said Corsair had been working on some gaming grade peripherals? Well, a rather large box arrived today in one of our international testing labs, deep underground, and for once it wasn’t a trained monkey. Under my grubby, sweaty, tech-hardened hands lie Corsair’s brand new…

VLC, perhaps the most popular cross-platform media player, has just reached the big 2.0 (err, 2.0.0). With an interface that will look little different for regular users, most of what’s new has been tackled on the back-end. Expect improved media support (as if it was poor to begin with), experimental support for Blu-ray discs…

A couple of months ago, we posted about comedian Louis CK’s endeavour of bringing his latest show to fans DRM-free and for cheap ($5), and overall, that move reaped some big rewards. Louis wasn’t just able to pay off the bill for the show, but got a handsome paycheck himself, gave some to his hard-working staff and the rest…

Hot on the heels of a patent victory the company experienced this past December, Apple has just received another that it can add to its ever-growing collection. While the patent in December against HTC had to do with converting text on the screen into a usable object, the patent in question today against Motorola regards the ‘Slide…

When Intel released its first Sandy Bridge-E processors this past November, it was expected that we’d see the first quad-core variant appear in February. Lo and behold, that has held true. The Core i7-3820 is a 3.6GHz offering that lobs off two cores and four threads. It shares its max Turbo frequency…

On Monday, we posted some pictures of an interesting piece of swag AMD sent our way; a faux pill prescription for “Verdetrol”. Today, the company has released the product those pills hinted at, based on the ‘Cape Verde’ architecture. Those products come in the form of the Radeon HD 7770 and HD 7750, the first mainstream parts to fall into…

We live in a world where trends and likes can change on a dime. Years ago, having a big screen TV was the coolest thing ever, but now it’s commonplace. We used to never imagine walking around with robust mobile computers, but that’s also commonplace. We never thought of using our cell phones for much more…

When one of my favorite MMOs, Lineage II, took the free-to-play route this past December, it became clear to me pretty quick that “free-to-play” actually translates to “pay-to-win”. The latest target of that scheme? Believe it or not…Angry Birds. Developer Rovio just released the game to Facebook, and as it stands, it’s the only…

When major floods struck Thailand last fall, hard drive manufacturers found themselves in a bad position. Certain parts became rare out of nowhere, and as a result, hard drive prices sky-rocketed. Post-flood, prices for a given model saw a hike of up to 3x, so it’s of little surprise that some have looked at alternative solutions to picking…

If there’s one thing we’re certain of about AMD, it’s that its press relations department has a good sense of humor. Often, I’ll receive an e-mail from someone there and end up cracking up laughing, and the same thing could be said about what hit our doorstep late last week. In a UPS bubble envelope, it sounded like a pill bottle inside…

This past CES, we learned of some ‘iCade’ products that aim to turn your iPhone or iPod touch into a better mobile gaming device, but of those solutions, none seemed that convenient (and in fact could be considered gimmicky). Today, however, ThinkGeek announced a solution that might just be the best we’ll ever get – at least…

Own a TRENDnet IP camera? You’ll want to head over to the company’s support section to see if there is an update available for your product, as a severe security vulnerability has been discovered in select models. The company has also put together a simple infographic that might be worth “sharing”…

A popular trend happening with MMO gaming today is to either launch a title as free-to-play (F2P) from the get go, and to transition a failing pay-to-play into a free-to-play one. The latter fate struck one of my favoriteMMORPGs this past December, Lineage II, and it’s certainly not alone. In recent months, both Star Trek…
