Last summer, it became known that the European Union was forcing its way into altering Windows 7 in order to make sure Microsoft was being “fair” to all of its users. Of course, I am of the opinion that the EU simply likes to waste tax-payer money by targeting non-existent issues, but regardless of what I think, the fruits of its labor is soon…

Ten years ago, you wouldn’t have pictured a game’s development cost to exceed that of many Hollywood movies, but today, we’re starting to see that happening. Many high-profile games do exceed the budgets of moderate movies out there, and it’s no surprise. Both a movie and a game have similar development processes, after all. Some games have…

Welp, there we have it… another contest wrapped up. After a long two weeks and countless entries, we compiled our list of capable entrants, drew a name from our virtual hat, and that was… crowTrobot! Huge congrats to them, and I look forward to hearing their thoughts on the 3D technology once they receive the product and get some…

There are a lot of technologies out there I feel that I couldn’t go without, but there are few that compare to wireless. Wires are just no fun. I can’t recall the number of times I’d move my feet under a desk and end up hauling the keyboard or mouse right off the tray. It’s aggravating. Plus, wires just look like a mess… and don’t even get me started…

Those following the developments in SSD technology will surely know about OCZ’s Vertex drives featuring Indilinx’s Barefoot controllers. These drives along with Intel’s “G2” SSD’s have been a longstanding favorite for their TRIM support and top-notch performance, but as with all technology, it doesn’t remain at the top for long. OCZ has just announced…

The digital age and lifestyle is a great thing, but now more than ever, storage space is of utmost importance. We mostly have our media to thank, with HD movies taking upwards of 10GB each, or more, our music, and even our images. If you’re a photographer using a D-SLR, each image can take 10MB or more on your PC and SD card. Then…

It’s not all too often that Futuremark updates its line of products, but last week, that rare occurrence happened, and all of its current products are affected. That goes for 3DMark Vantage, 3Dmark 06, 3Dmark 05, 3DMark 03, PCMark Vantage and PCMark 05. Sadly, no 3DMark 2001 love has been seen with the last batch of updates for all those…

I can’t believe it, but Techgage turns the big “5” next month. That’s right! The site officially launched on March 1, 2005, alongside our first two pieces of content (Logitech’s RumblePad 2 and Logisys’ Janus Chassis). That was close to 850 pieces of content ago, so as you could imagine, sometimes it’s really hard to recall all of the content…

Alright, if there’s a news post I had to write that made me feel old, it’s this one. Super Mario Bros. 3, the Nintendo Entertainment System classic, turned 20 last Friday, based on its North American release. The reason I feel old is because I remember so vividly seeing the brand-spanking-new bright yellow box sitting on the shelf at the store, and likewise, I remember tearing the box open to shove the cartridge in the console…

To say that Microsoft has been having quite the good year thus far would be an understatement. Windows 7 is selling well, and without much major complaint from its users, and as mentioned mere weeks ago, Internet Explorer 8 is somehow the Web’s most popular browser. Improvements haven’t halted there, though, as surprisingly…

Microsoft has never been known as being a company to stand by idly while its software is hacked and cracked, and it’s no surprise that its flagship desktop OS is where a lot of the focus goes. Since the introduction of WGA, or Windows Genuine Advantage, activation in Windows has become an inane process, one that’s riddled to the nines with…

When someone passed me along an article Anand wrote called, “The RV870 Story: AMD Showing up to the Fight“, I wasn’t sure what to make of it. Just what could it be about, exactly? Well, my initial thoughts on what it could be were a bit off, and I found the entire article to be extremely enlightening. Anand talked to many different people at…

Over the weekend, I kept hearing about this TED video where Microsoft’s Seadragon architect, Blaise Aguera y Arcas, was showing off some of the features that are coming to Bing Maps. I didn’t know quite what to expect, especially with a term like, “augmented-reality” floating around, but after watching the video, all I have to say is, “Google Earth?”

I forgot to make mention of this in our news section last week, but last Monday, we launched a contest to give away an NVIDIA 3D Vision kit, which includes the 3D Vision IR receiver and glasses, along with Samsung’s 22″ 2233RZ monitor. That monitor features a 120Hz display, which is required to deliver the full 3D experience (at least, without…

As we mentioned in our news section about two weeks ago, KDE 4.4 was due to come out on February 9th, and without a hitch, it happened. Since KDE 4.3 was the reason I finally decided to upgrade to KDE 4 from 3.5 back at its release, I was excited to see if 4.4 would reinvigorate my love for the desktop environment, and in many ways, it…

For professional artists and designers, the name “Photoshop” almost seems synonymous with the type of work they do. But, with the software starting at $700, it’s pretty hard to jump all over the opportunity of owning a copy unless you absolutely need some of the features it offers. Thankfully though, for the rest of us who don’t explicitly need…

Over the years, we’ve heard of many products that promised to combine both flash-based and mechanical-based storage together to deliver something amazing, but to the best of my knowledge, no product like this has ever shipped. It could be for a good reason, too, because with the promises of ultra-fast speeds, it makes no sense at all…

I am not sure about you guys, but with the knowledge of Sonic the Hedgehog 4’s summer release, I would have been content for the next couple of weeks without some real excitement. Use Firefox? Use Firefox on more than one PC? Tired of manually syncing all of your settings from one PC to the next, such as bookmarks, history, passwords, and preferences? Mozilla’s Weave extension looks to take away that pain, and allow your Firefox setup to remain identical on multiple PCs – even mobile devices. That’s right…

There are few things on this earth that could cause me to squeal like a little schoolgirl, but the thought of a true sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is one of the rare exceptions. Last fall, SEGA released a preview trailer that hinted at a new Sonic game in 2010, but what made the announcement most interesting was the mention of it being a 2D…

As far as I’m concerned, music is one of the best inventions ever. It can pump you up, mellow you out, cheer you up or bring back old memories. I think it goes without saying that music is a big part of most of our lives, but if you were to judge that by music sales trends, you might begin to think that there’s a downward spiral in effect, and it doesn’t…

For as long as it’s existed, YouTube has been known as a site to offer free video. But last month, Google tested the waters to see if people would be willing to pay for movie rentals to help recoup the enormous bills that the site accrues every day. To say the test was a roaring success would be a bit of an understatement, with a mere $10,709.16…

Just over two months ago, Micron surprised the tech world with its announcement of the ultra-fast C300 SSD. For a company that’s been almost perfectly quiet about its solid-state drive models, the C300 was just unexpected. The biggest surprise? The fact that it would become the first SATA 3.0-based SSD offering. Don’t think that’s not for a…

We posted yesterday about Microsoft’s recent reason for celebration, being the proud owners of the world’s fastest-selling OS, but thanks to Web analytics firm Net Applications, it has another reason to toss onto the pile. That company has just updated its browser market share charts for the month of January, and Internet Explorer’s share…
